Connecting Essay #2

Paul Grogan

In this image I want the focus to be the picture which is the canvas as this is the real work of David Grogan. In this image Grogan has used a wide angle lens to shoot a city scape of New York, he has took this from a high up position and this is known to the audience as you can see the top of every skyscraper. This image has been put into black and white and I think this drains everything from the picture so you can simply focus on what you see, and the colour doesnt overbear and complicate the image, This image is a picture that does not require any thinking but it is simply there to admire. The use of the wide angle lens allows the audience to see the skyline and the expanse of Manhattan.

In this image I shot a picture of Londons Parliament from across the Thames so I could fit the whole length of it in.I was able to do this by using a wide angle lens which fit all of Parliament and Big Ben in the shot. I zoomed in for this picture as I only wanted to focus on Parliament and Big Ben, In this image I kept repeating the layer of the image over and over again to created a repeated image feel, I think it adds to the idea of time passing by.

Both of these images connect because of the wide angle lens which has the ability to show the entirety of a setting and how big it can be. Both of these images have a clear sky (which is by pure luck) however it manages to keep the attention on the manmade objects. My personal aspect for my photograph was manmade, I also think this runs in Grogans image.
