Connecting Essay #1

David Speight

In this photograph there is the erosion of a boat on what seems to be a beach. In this picture it almost seems as if natural elements take over those which are physical because because the different colours of the sky cover over the boat. This is enforced when the boat is seen in a dull brown colour due to decay and the sky ranges from beautiful blues to pinks. In the composition of this image you can see the boat is central making it the focal point of this image and due to its scale and the way it appears it is quite eyecatching. The aspect of this photograph is perhaps decay or maybe colour as it looks into the opposition of colours between the manmade object and the natural element of the sky.

In this image I have photographed an old boat used for fishing, I have used depth within this picture as you can travel your eyes along the boat. In this image I have saturated the colour to make the boat seem older than what it is, however also saturating the natural sea and grass background, to make it seem as if it is an aged placed. In this image you can only see part of the sea however an expanse of the sky, it is shown to be cloudless and clear blue, indicating it is a sunny day. The aspect I had when taking this photo was summer due to the sky, however the boat and the ocean aid this .

These images connect because they both have the same setting of a manmade object within a very natural place, in both of the images the sky seems to overtake the boats as they are seen to be infinite whereas with the boats you can see where they end. In fact the settings are very similar as you can see eroded rock within the background of both. Both images have decided against using wide angle to show the nitrite image, both images get close up to the boat, centralizing it, making them the focal point of both images.
